Ski Liberty Day Trip

Pack 159's day ski trip is Saturday Feb 5th at Ski Liberty.

ALL TRAILS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN AND THEY HAVE A GOOD BASE! SHOULD BE GREAT SKIING!!!!!!!

The following are three different ski options:
• Option 1
Lift ticket only - access to all open lifts and trails $52
• Option 2
Learn to ski/snowboard pkg - Lift ticket for beginner trails, equipment rental, and beginner lesson* $68
• Option 3
All Mountain pkg - Lift ticket for all open lifts and trails, Equipment rental, and lesson* at your ability level $80

*all lessons are walk-on lessons: for Beginner level 1 - every hour from 9AM - 2PM; Level 2-9, every 2 hours starting at 10AM

Option 2 and 3 are for ages 8 and up because of the lesson. Under 8 need to register at the kids club.

This trip includes a 25% food discount coupon and a Liberty collectible scout patch.
You can pre-purchase a Super Saver Meal for $9 (selection of 4 meals).

Tubing is available for an additional fee.

If you are interested in the Option 1 with a rental, please pick the Option 3 and skip the lesson. It turns out to be cheaper than Option 1 + a ski rental.

Pinewood Derby

Congratulations to all our scouts! There were some pretty amazing designs and exceptionally fast cars this year!!!

Everyone did a wonderful job and the entire event was a huge success! I’d like to send out a big THANK YOU to all the adult and boy scout volunteers that made this event such a success. We’d especially like to thank Paul Miller for his many years of dedication to this event! Thanks Paul, we are all going to miss you!!

Every scout from Pack 159 will receive a patch for participating in the 2011 Pine Wood Derby; patches will be distributed to leaders soon.

Pack Meeting 11/18 7pm -- "Respect"

Just a quick reminder for everyone to bring their donations to the Marine Corp care packages on Thursday. If you will not be able to make it, please contact me directly to arrange a drop off the items. We are preparing the packages on Thursday at the meeting.

If you have not donated yet, have no fear. There is still an opportunity to participate. Please check out the list at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/marine1 and pick something to bring. I need 30 more boxes. I think the 12x12 size boxes like the large flat rate box size from the Post Office will be perfect.

And parents, I will need your organization skills on Thursday night, as we set up the donation drop off files and do the assembly line.

NephCure Walk Sat. 9/25 8am

NephCure Walk – Northern VA

The NephCure Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting research to find better treatment, the cause and a cure for Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS, two rare but incurable diseases that damage the kidneys. In December 2009, Allie, sister of Pack 159 member Lucas Buermeyer, was diagnosed with FSGS. She is currently on a powerful immunosuppressant drug generally given to transplant patients—along with a regimen of other medications—and has recently made a great deal of progress. However, she is still struggling with the many difficulties associated with this potentially devastating disease and unfortunately relapses are likely.

Please help us find a cure for Allie!

To have an accurate record of walk participants, each walker must register with the organization. You do not need to raise funds to walk—families are welcome to make one-time donations after they complete registration.

To register: go to FirstGiving’s website, click on “I want to raise money, too”, then click on “for this non-profit”. Click on “register for an event”, then from the list, find and select the Sept. 25 event. Next, click “Yes, register on-line now” and “continue”, then register as a walker—enter “1”, agree to the terms, then hit continue. You will be asked to enter an email address and contact information (your actual event registration). After filling in the form, you will be directed to a page and can select a team—enter Pack 159. Hit “Confirm” on the last page, and you are done! (On the last page, you don’t need to create a fundraising page). If you would like to donate, after you have registered, you can go back to the first page—“I want to raise money”, and click on “sponsor me now”. All donations will be credited to Pack 159.

Join Scouting Night!

Our first Pack meeting will be held this Thursday Sept 23rd @ 6:30pm at Fox Mill Elementary.

In an effort to spread the word about scouting and have some fun, please have the boys wear their Class-B uniforms (i.e. yellow t-shirts) to school (and the pack meeting) on Thursday!!

This pack meeting is open to all new scouts/ families. So please help make all the new families and scouts feel welcomed.


From 6:30 to 7pm, the boy will participate in a parade celebrating 100 Years of Scouting. We will meet in front of the school.


A uniform swap/donation will be conducted during the pack meeting:
Please bring any un-needed hats, slides, neckerchiefs and hand books that you’d like to donated to a younger Pack 159 scout.
All donated items should be cleaned prior to being donated.
Also, please feel free to pickup items that would be appropriate for your son.


From 7pm to 8:15 the boys will meet in the cafeteria for our first pack meeting. The pack meeting will consist of a variety of games, activities and crafts.

Also from 7 – 8:15pm the parents will have a chance to learn a little more about Pack 159 and sign/submit an application to have your son join. Returning scouts do not need to re-submit a new youth application.


Note, this year the pack will supply the rank hand books for all scouts (when they register).

As a reminder, the annual dues are $60. Please be prepare to submit a check (made out to Pack 159) for this amount. Note, for a small amount more, your son can receive a subscription to Boy’s Life. Samples of the Boy Life Magazine will be available to review at the meeting
